FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all of your piercings titanium?
Our piercings are sourced and imported through through online retailers only after extensive research on the seller, and reviewing the certifications earned by the metals advertised.
What type of titanium is in your jewelry?
We only sell ASTM F136 grade titanium steel, which is suitable for implants according to ISO standards.
It is common to see body piercing jewelry advertised as “G23” or “implant grade”, as all ASTM F136 is G23, but not all G23 is ASTM F136.
What aspects of the jewelry are tested?
Upon arrival, random samples of our piercings are tested for appropriate magnetism, nickel content, corrosion resistance, and gemstone quality.
What are your testing processes?
Our tests are conducted using the following procedures:
- Magnetism: there should be no magnetic pull, this is literally tested by putting a strong magnet by the jeweler and seeing what sticks
- Presence of nickel content: a Dimethylglyoxime nickel spot test reveals impure metal mixtures.
- Gemstone quality: a multi-day saline bath will reveal if the gem in the jewelry has been appropriately mounted, or simply adhered using lead plating and glue or similar ineffective methods.
- Corrosion resistance: titanium is resistant to corrosion from a variety of sources, including sea water. Any impurities in the metal would be revealed alongside impurities in the gemstone
